Top 3 best mosquito killers in 2023:

Mosquitos are not that bad – I mean, there are certainly far more dangerous creatures on the face of the Earth – but they do carry diseases, such as Malaria or Zika virus, and spread them at an alarming rate.

Plus, they’re super annoying.

Nothing ruins a good night’s sleep or a fun outdoor gathering as the high-pitched buzzing of these pesky, little bloodsuckers – and the itchy bumps they leave in their wake.

The good news is that, unlike bed bug infestations, for example, you have a fighting chance here – as long as you find the best mosquito killer for the job, that is.

And this guide is all about helping you do that!

26 Best Mosquito Killers In 2023: Detailed Reviews

And just so you know, I’m not going to talk about chemical-based mosquito killers here.

I know that these are a valid option that most of us came across at least once in our lives, but we all know they’re not the healthiest choice out there. So, let’s focus on electrically-charged zappers, instead!

Here are my top 26 recommendations for the upcoming mosquito season!

1. Flowtron BK-40D Electronic Insect Killer, 1 Acre Coverage

I wanted to start this round-up with what might be the best mosquito killer out there and show you what’s up in the bug-zapping department:

Boasting an impressive one-acre radius, insecticides-free operation, and sturdy construction, this Flowtron model is a perfect example of what to look for in a mosquito killer!

Also – and this is important since we’re talking about an outdoor mosquito killer – the polycarbonate construction is weatherproof, meaning you don’t have to worry about it rusting, fading, or cracking due to exposure to harsh weather conditions.

It will take care of a lot more than just mosquitos, too – moths and other flying bugs are all fair game to this Flowtron model, even if they may not be your prime targets. You’ll likely end up cleaning the unsightly insect “remains” every two or so days.

It’s a slightly more expensive model, but it’s worth every penny you spend on it.

2. Desuccus Electric Bug Zapper with UV Light Trap/Electronic Mosquito Killer/Indoor Plug-in Pests Killer/Nontoxic, Odorless & Noiseless Fly Eliminator/Powerful & Efficient Light Bulbs Bug Zapper

If you’re not a fan of those lantern-like models, and you’re looking for something you can plug into the nearest outlet and forget it’s even there, then this Desuccus Electric Bug Zapper might be a perfect solution for you.

Again, the product is entirely chemical-free and uses a combination of an LED UV light and a zapper, instead. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about children or pets coming in contact with the electrically-charged grid, because the unit has a protective outside mesh.

The best thing about it has to be the light sensor mode, though. The device will turn on at night, and shut off automatically once the sun rises!

That said, make sure you turn off the lights in the room, or it may not be as efficient in attracting and killing mosquitos and other flying insects. Plus, it could mess with its light sensors, and it may not even turn on, in the first place.

3. LiBa Bug Zapper Electric Indoor Insect Killer Mosquito, Bug, Fly Killer – Powerful 2800V Grid 20W Bulbs – 2-Pack Replacement Bulbs Included

What if the problem isn’t in your backyard, but inside your home, instead?

Chemical-based mosquito killers are never a good idea in indoor settings, but you probably already know that – so, let me introduce you to a chemical-free indoor alternative:

The LiBa Electric Bug Zapper.

Using powerful 2800 V bulbs and 365 nm wavelength, the unit emits a light no insect in your home will be able to resist – from mosquitos to flies, and everything in between. All those zapped bugs end up in a conveniently placed collection tray that’s removable and relatively easy to clean, too.

You also get a wire chain in case you want to hang your LiBa up on the wall.

If there’s one thing I didn’t quite like, it’s that it’s insanely loud. You can be having a nice, relaxing evening, and all of a sudden, you’ll hear a loud popping noise – enough to annoy you and startle your pets, if you have any.

4. ELUCTO Large Electric Bug Zapper Fly Swatter Zap Mosquito Best for Indoor and Outdoor Pest Control (2 DURACELL AA Batteries Included)

Next one up is a mosquito killer that works for both indoor and outdoor environments – but it brings about a slightly different concept:

Instead of plugging it in, the ELUCTO Electric Fly Swatter requires you to take matters into your own hands, and do the actual swinging yourself – the electric charge only makes you more efficient.

The one-layer design is handy maintenance-wise because you don’t get a lot of insects caught up in it.

The zapper is battery-powered, which is quite convenient in terms of portability – but it also means you’ll have to keep buying new Duracell batteries when the two you get included in the package run out of juice, so keep that in mind.

Also, if you have kids running around the house, you should probably see that they don’t get their hands on one of these – the ELUCTO doesn’t care if you’re an insect or not. If you touch it, it will zap you!

5. Samshow Bug Zapper Light- Indoor Pole Mount Light for Large Area Lighting – with Low Power Stick shoker Anti Mosquito

Although I don’t believe any of the mosquito killers I talked about so far were overpriced, they weren’t exactly cheap, either – but the Samshow Bug Zapper is.

The first thing that caught my attention was the design, though, and not the price – if you’re not a fan of big-and-bulky bug zappers, you’re going to love the low-profile.

Thanks to the built-in light-sensing technology to turn on at dusk, and then turn off automatically at dawn, when mosquitos are less likely to bother you, anyway, which, in turn, minimizes unnecessary energy consumption.

Also, it comes in handy as a night light. You get to kill two flies with one blow – pun intended.

The grid itself is enclosed in a plastic housing, which helps protect both kids and pets from getting zapped on accident. Bugs, on the other hand, all end up in a removable plastic tray.

We’ll see how it holds up in the long run, though.

6. GLOUE Bug Zapper Mosquito Killer Updated Version UV Lamp Insect Killer Plug-in Mosquito Zapper Mosquito Killer Night Lamp Non-Toxic LED, Eliminates Most Flying Pests

Again, I know not everyone’s a fan of those large-and-in-charge type of bug zappers, so why not give you another one of the plug-in variety while we’re at it?

One of the main things I like about GLOUE is its compact size, and how lightweight and portable it is. All you need to power it up is an AC outlet – be it in the office, your bedroom, a hotel room, or the living room. As long as you have access to electricity, you’re good.

It doesn’t have a collection tray; dead bugs end up on the inside of the unit. The clean-up is still relatively easy, though!

If there’s anything I didn’t like about this model, it’s the coverage, or lack of it, thereof. A single unit can only cover one room at a time, which leaves you with a choice – either you buy a few, or you keep moving it from one place to the next.

7. ZAP IT! Bug Zapper – Rechargeable Mosquito, Fly Killer and Bug Zapper Racket – 4,000 Volt – USB Charging, Super-Bright LED Light to Zap in The Dark – Safe to Touch (Medium)

If disposable batteries are not exactly your thing, but you still prefer these portable versions of bug zappers, then the ZAP IT! might be the best mosquito killer for you!

It has a USB charging port and a built-in rechargeable battery, rather than a disposable one, allowing you to stay both mosquito-free and eco-friendly.

If you ever end up chasing a mosquito around in the middle of the night, the built-in LED light will probably be of tremendous help there. However, keep in mind that it does drain the battery pretty fast, so only use the LED light feature when you absolutely need it.

The 4000 V grid is powerful enough to kill any – and every – flying insect in a single swing. Also, it has a triple-layer safety mesh, so there’s less chance of getting zapped by accident.

In case of small children, the risk is still there, so keep an eye on curious little hands poking around it!

8. Diaotec Solar Power Bug Zapper Wireless Insect Mosquito Killer Electronic Pest Control Led Lamp for Camping, Hiking and Fishing Night Light

If you tend to go camping often or you generally spend a lot of your free time outdoors, you know that electricity is not always an option in those scenarios – which is why it’s so important to have an alternative solution at hand.

Enter Diaotec – a solar-powered mosquito killer!

You don’t ever have to worry if it’s charged or not – let it sit in the sun during the day, and it will reward you by taking care of mosquitos, flies, moths and other bugs that might be bothering you at night.

And if you decide to use it indoors, where it won’t get enough sunlight, you can always switch to USB charging. It works both ways!

The LED bulbs play a dual role here, too – they attract the insects, and they work as a night light!

The unit is well-made, too, combining stainless steel and an acrylic protective frame with waterproof solar panels – no need to worry about the weather conditions.

9. Stinger Cordless Rechargeable Insect Zapper, Black

If portability is the deciding factor for you, but you prefer a lantern-like design, chances are you’ll love the Stinger – it’s rechargeable, cordless, and works both as a mosquito killer and an accent light for your porch.

The Stinger comes with their signature NOsquito Octenol Lure, which helps attract the mosquitos and makes the zapper more effective, and while it does work, I wasn’t too thrilled about the chemicals or the monthly costs of replacing it.

And while I’m all about these rechargeable insect zappers, I do expect the batteries to last.

Unfortunately, though, the battery life is quite short.

You’ll get three to four hours at most out of a single charge. That wouldn’t be an issue if you could use it while it’s plugged in, but the instructions manual advises against it.

It’s a decent option for when you want to chill outside for a bit – but spending the entire night under the stars? Not so much.

10. EasyGoProducts Zapper – Mosquito Bug Killer Trap – Powerful 18 Watt Light Lamp – Indoor and Outdoor Use

The EasyGoProducts Zapper falls somewhere in the reasonably-priced range – not too expensive, but not cheap, either. Because it works both outdoors and indoors, and boasts a half-acre coverage, though, I’d say it’s a fair deal.

The unit features an 18-watt lamp and aluminum grid that will stay rust-free even if you set it up outside, a protective casing that will prevent kids or pets from getting zapped by accident, as well as a chain for added mounting options. Also, it comes with a detachable basin that will catch all the dead bugs, and make clean up a breeze.

Moreover, it doesn’t make those obnoxious zapping noises, which is a massive plus in my book.

Although I appreciate the fact that you don’t have to worry about battery life with this one, I also feel like the lack of batteries altogether limits its functionality – if you can’t find a power source, this thing’s pretty much useless.

11. Bell + Howell Monster Zapper Bug Zapper 2,800-Volt, 20-watts – ETL/UL/TUV-Approved – Electric Indoor Pest Control As Seen On TV (Original)

If you’re searching for a device that will help keep your backyard insect-free, you might as well skip this one. If not, stick around – you may find that the Bell + Howell Monster Zapper is precisely what you’re looking for here.

The unit features built-in UV bulbs to attract the insects and a 2800 V grid to zap them instantly. It’s chemical and odor-free, and there’s no risk of your pets getting in there, which is a safety plus.

If you leave it on during the night, it acts as a night light, as well!

Clean-up is a breeze, too, thanks to the unit’s removable collection tray.

I like that it comes with a chain, as it gives you the option of hanging it somewhere or placing it on the ground or a table near you.

Granted, it’s not the most stylish-looking thing to have to hang in your home, but it gets the job done.

12. Aspectek Upgraded 20W Electronic Bug Zapper, Insect Killer – Mosquito, Fly, Moth, Wasp, Beetle & Other pests Killer for Indoor Residential & Commercial

You’re already pretty familiar with this type of indoor bug zappers – they’re chemical-free, easy to use, and pretty good at what they do. What sets Aspectek apart from them, though, is how powerful it is.

As far as safety goes, the zapper has a mesh screen that should be enough to protect your pets or children from accidentally touching the grid – but if you want to be extra careful, use the included chain to keep it out of reach.

The collection tray on the bottom eliminates the need for cleaning up insect remains off the floor – and the fact that it’s removable and washable makes clean-up even more straightforward.

However, the cord is too short, especially if you plan to hang the unit somewhere. Also, the noise it makes when it zaps a bug is a bit too loud (and annoying) for me. If you tend to wake up easily, keep it outside your bedroom.

13. Electric Bug Zapper Insect Mosquito Killer – 2019 Upgraded Fly killer Super 18W 3U Shape UV Bulb, IP24 Waterproofed + Attractant Space Outdoor & Indoor Electronic Gnat Trap. 1/2-1 Acre Coverage

It reminded me so much of the traditional lanterns my grandparents had hanging on their porch, that I had to have one!

Of course, you can’t buy the best mosquito killer based on looks alone, so, here’s what it offers performance-wise:

First off, you should know that, with a coverage of up to one acre, this bug zapper is perfect for both outdoor and indoor settings. It’s equipped with a built-in metal ring, as many other similar models are, giving you the option to hang it pretty much anywhere you want.

The spaces between the bars are somewhat small, so it doesn’t quite work for giant insects – but it takes care of the mosquitos, and that’s all that matters here, right?

The following remarks are not deal-breakers, but they’re worth mentioning:

It doesn’t have any batteries, though, which means you’re limited to using power outlets and extension cords. Also, the zapping sound is a bit loud.

14. Crioxen Indoor Plug-in Bug Zapper – Mosquito Trap with UV Light – Indoor Mosquito Killer – Electric Insect Repellent – Gnat Trap for Mosquitoes Fruit Flies and Flying Gnats

If you’re looking for a compact, simple-to-use, and reasonably priced product, the indoor plug-in bug zapper by Crioxen might be a good option for you.

These plug-in devices are possibly the most straightforward mosquito-killing solutions out there – all they need is a power source, and they’re good to go straight out of the box! You have an On/Off button, too, which gives you an added element of control here.

Don’t let its smaller-than-usual size fool you, though. Given the 500 square feet coverage, it’s capable of keeping your home mosquito-free.

Oh, and it gets bonus points for keeping the noise level under control!

Pay attention to where you’re plugging it in if you have small children or pets walking around the house – it does have a protective grid, but I’m not sure if it’s enough to keep those tiny hands and paws away.

I can’t talk about actual durability at this point, but I’d say that the Crioxen is worth giving a shot.

15. Sourcing4U Limited The Executioner Fly Swat Wasp Bug Mosquito Swatter Zapper

The main thing that caught my attention about this product, and got me to give it a try in the first place was its name. I mean, it’s called The Executioner – who wouldn’t want to add something like that to their bug-killing arsenal?

To add to the overall dramatic effect, when you press the button that charges the grid, The Executioner lets out a high-pitched noise – almost like a whine – to let you know it’s ready to kill some mosquitos. Also, there’s a real spark whenever you zap a bug with it!

And while the disposable batteries give it an added element of portability, I’m sure you know by now that I’m not a big fan of those – so, I’m going to have to take away some points for the not-so-eco-friendly power source.

Sometimes the insects will fly away unharmed, or you’ll need to zap them more than once to finish the job, though, which doesn’t seem very “Executioner-y” to me.

16. Hoont Bulb Socket Bug Zapper Powerful Electric Insect Killer Traps Mosquitoes Flies and Other Annoying Gnats – Fits in 110V E26/ E27 Light Bulb Socket for Indoor Outdoor Porch Patio Backyard

If you don’t want to have an entirely separate device for bug-zapping purposes, and you prefer something that will fit into a light bulb socket, instead, I strongly recommend that you opt for this Hoont bug-zapping light bulb.

It has all the same features as a standard bug zapper has – a UV light that attracts insects and an electrically-charged grid that zaps them – but it looks more like a regular light bulb than an actual mosquito killer.

Plus, it’s rather affordable!

You can use it in both outdoor and indoor settings, and it will provide up to 500 square feet of coverage, too. All you need is a standard bulb socket, and you’re good to go. Most importantly, it’s safe for 24/7 operation.

The only downside is that it doesn’t quite work as well if the room isn’t completely dark – it has to be the only light source in the area. Otherwise, the bugs aren’t that attracted to it.

17. Gogogu 2019 Upgraded Mosquito Killer Bug Zapper with Hook, Flying Insect Trap for Indoor and Outdoor

Here’s another bug-zapping device you can use both indoor and outdoor, from the bedroom to the patio, and anywhere in between – the Gogogu Mosquito Killer.

Thanks to the built-in hook, you can hang it anywhere you want – or you can let it sit on a solid surface, such as a table or a countertop. Plug it in, flip the switch, and let the UV lamp attract the insects into an electrically-charged death trap.

Make sure there’s a power outlet nearby, though, because the cord is somewhat short.

Also, if you’re annoyed by devices that “notify” you whenever a bug is killed, you’ll like this one. Granted, it’s not entirely silent, but it’s not loud, either, which is vital if you decide to use it inside and especially in your bedroom.

Price-wise, it falls somewhere in the middle, so it pretty much comes down to how much you’re willing to pay for mosquito-free nights.

18. VENSMILE Electric Bug Zapper Fly Insects Killer Mosquito Trap for Indoor Use

The VENSMILE is relatively similar in both design and price to the previous Gogogu model, with its lantern-like construction and chemical-free operation.

However, this is an indoor-only mosquito killer, meant to be hanged in your living room, bedroom, hall, and pretty much anywhere else, as long as it’s near windows or doors.

The UV lamp attracts the mosquitoes and other flying bugs, and the electrically charged grid zaps them. Now, the grid is not as “powerful” as in some other models we’ve seen so far, but the 800-1000 voltage is still enough to get the job done.

Also, if you keep it on throughout the night (and we all know that’s when the mosquitos get you), the blue UV light works as a beautiful, soft night light, too, which is pretty convenient.

I recommend hanging it out of reach whenever you leave it unsupervised, though, especially if there are pets or kids running around.

19. SBL Home Bug Mosquito Insect Fly Zapper Indoor Lamp, Trap, Catcher Bundled with Electric Fly Swatter, Racket, Racquet

Sometimes these pesky, little bloodsuckers find a way to escape the death trap you set up for them, and when that happens, you’re going to wish you had one of those “manual” bug zappers to finish the job.

Well, the SBL Home bug-zapping bundle has you covered!

For an insanely affordable price, you’re getting a set that includes both a lantern-like bug zapper lamp and an electric swatter! That way, you can have it up and running as a long-term pest control strategy, using the swatter whenever you feel like taking matters into your own hands.

Plus, it adds to the portability. One is reserved for indoor use only, and the other can hang out with you both in and outside your home.

I have to comment on the swatter’s poor design, though – the electric grid only features horizontal lines, meaning you have about 50:50 chances of hitting smaller insects, such as mosquitos, on your first swing.

20. GLOUE Bug Zapper Electronic Mosquito Zapper Electronic Insect Killer Eliminates Most Flying Pests

I know some of you surely prefer having a more low-profile bug zapper in your home.

Enter GLOUE – a simple, compact, chemical-free mosquito killer that doesn’t draw too much attention, but still gets the job done.

Plug it in the nearest power outlet, flip the switch, and it’s good to go – the UV light and the electrically charged grid will take care of the bugs for you. All you need to do after that is check the removable collection tray on the bottom of the unit from time to time, and clean it out whenever the need arises. That’s it!

Did I forget to mention that it’s super affordable, too?

My favorite thing has to be the quiet operation, though. I’ve mentioned many times before that the loud popping noise some models make can be super annoying, and the fact that this one stays relatively quiet was a more than welcome surprise!

21. BRISON Indoor Plug-in Вug Zapper – 3.5 W/ 110v with UV Light – Power Portable Home Electric Insеct Trap – Odorless Noiseless – Blue Night Lamp for Removes Fliеs Mоsquitоs Gnаts Моth and Вugs

Here, you get two BRISON Indoor Plug-In Bug Zappers – enough to keep your household mosquito-free at a reasonable price!

They’re compact, highly portable, and simple to use. Plus, it can work as a night light, which is an excellent addition if you decide to use it in your kids’ rooms.

Safety-wise, not only does it have an outer protective cover, but the electrically-charged grid is so far back, that it’s virtually impossible to reach it and get zapped by accident.

The coverage is on the lower end compared to some other models on this list – around 200 square feet – but you do get two of these, though, so you can still cover two rooms at a time.

The only downside is that the collection tray is a bit too small. It’s not a deal-breaker, of course, but it does mean you’ll have to clean it out more often. And by “more often”, I mean daily.

22. Samshow Bug Zapper Light – Lot Light with Photocell – Indoor Pole Mount Light for Large Area – Anti Mosquito with Electric Shock

Here’s another Samshow Bug Zapper – but this one features a slightly different design:

Instead of merely attracting and zapping flying insects, it has a three-step operation – once the insects get near it, the fan sucks them in, where they have no chance escaping the electrically-charged stainless steel grid. Once plugged in, it covers an area of up to 600 square feet, too!

Also, due to a rather stylish design, it makes for a perfect night light. You can place it on your nightstand, and be sure your bedroom will stay mosquito-free for the night.

I know you’re expecting it to be loud, but surprisingly enough, the fan and the actual zapper are both pretty quiet, keeping the noise to a minimum.

I haven’t had any issues with this one, so there aren’t any notable downsides for me to mention. I hope it holds up well in the long run, though.

23. Gogogu Bug Zapper Light Bulbs, Mosquito Killer Lamp, UV LED Electronic Insect & Fly Killer for Indoor and Outdoor

I already introduced you to one of Gogogu’s models earlier on in the article, and you know what to expect from them performance-wise.

So, why did I decide to include another one of their products in my round-up?

Well, this one brings an entirely new concept to the table – a combination of an LED light and a bug zapper, wrapped in a single light bulb that fits any E27 lamp fixtures.

The light bulb lets you choose between three different modes depending on your needs, too. You can use it only as an LED light, as a bug zapper, or both at the same time – and you change modes by a simple flip of a switch.

Being both an indoor and outdoor mosquito killer, this one offers you a wide range of applications. As long as you have a proper socket nearby, the Gogogu will take care of everything, from mosquitos and flies to moths and fleas.

24. Original Indoor Insect Trap: Bug, Fruit Fly, Gnat, Mosquito Killer – UV Light, Fan, Sticky Glue Boards Trap Even The Tiniest Flying Bugs – No Zapper – Child Safe, Non-Toxic

I know I promised I’d stick to electric zappers in this round-up, and for the most part, I did – but when I first came across this indoor insect trap by KATCHY, I knew I had to make an exception, and include it in my list.

Yes, it’s that good!

It’s chemical-free, of course – but works on a different principle:

The UV lamp attracts the insects, but instead of zapping them, it uses a fan to suck them in and trap them on a sticky glue board at the bottom of the unit.

I’d say that the lack of an electrically-charged grid makes it the safest option on the list for households with small children and pets!

The only downside is that it requires continuous purchases. One sticky disc is nowhere near enough, and you’ll have to buy more in a matter of weeks. It’s safe, it works, but it’s not the most budget-friendly solution out there.

25. Siuyiu The Mosquito Trap Killer Insect Bug Light Electric Fly Zapper Bulb Outdoor | Indoor UV and LED Lamp | 2-in-1 Night Light | Screw-in Design | 200 Sq. Ft. Protection | Patio, Porch, Deck Use

You’ve seen a fair share of the best mosquito killers that also double as night lights on this list, so the concept isn’t entirely new – but the Siuyiu took things to the next level!

The Siuyiu mosquito killer features UV light bulbs that attract and then zap any flying insects that come near them, as any other similar model would, but here’s the cool part:

The lamp can switch modes, and work both as a UV and an LED light. It’s a two-in-one solution that can completely replace the lights you currently have on your porch and keep the area insect-free at the same time.

There’s one little issue, though – the unit is not water resistant. You’ll have to be extra picky about finding the perfect location for it, especially if you do decide to hang it on your porch – you don’t want to risk it getting in contact with the rain.

26. ZappLight LED 60W Bug Zapper Bulb by BulbHead Insect and Mosquito Zapper Fits Standard Light Fixture To Attract and Kill Bugs On Contact

I started this round-up with one of the more expensive mosquito killers, so I figured I should wrap it up with one of the more affordable ones.

So, let me introduce you to ZappLight – one of my favorite budget-friendly mosquito killers out there!

That said, it wasn’t the price tag that first caught my attention – it was the idea of fitting a bug zapper inside a regular light bulb! How cool is that?

If you opt for this one, you’re virtually eliminating the need for buying two separate products – you get an LED light and a bug zapper all in one. The bulb fits standard light fixtures, plus, it comes with an extender, giving you a bit more versatility in that department.

All in all, it’s a fantastic concept – but I’m yet to see how long it lasts, especially when used outside. If it holds up well in the long run, though, it could be a real game changer.
